Preparation Is Everything

Masonry paint that is going to last starts with proper preparation. We pressure-wash the entire surface to remove dirt, moss and chalking paint. We scrape any flaking paint back to a sound edge, treat green or red-brown algae with a fungicidal wash, and let the wall fully dry before priming.

Cracks larger than hairline are filled with flexible masonry filler. Stained areas (rust running from old metal fixings, brown patches from leaking gutters above) are spot-primed to stop bleed-through. Anything we miss now will show up through the paint later.

Two Coats of Quality Masonry Paint

We use trade-grade masonry paint from Dulux, Crown or Johnstones in a smooth or fine-textured finish. Two full coats give the proper opacity and resilience — single coats fade and chalk within five years.

Standard colours are Magnolia, Brilliant White, Cotswold Stone, Sandstone and Mid Grey but any BS or RAL colour can be tinted. North-facing walls in shade benefit from an anti-mould additive in the second coat.

Silicone Masonry Creme

For older Sunderland brickwork that you do not want to paint, silicone-creme treatment is a brilliant alternative. It is a clear cream that brushes onto brick or stone, sinks into the substrate and waterproofs without changing the appearance. Bricks shed water but breathe; salt damage and frost-spalling are dramatically reduced.

Lasts 20-25 years by manufacturer claim and we usually see ten-year-old applications still performing well.

Pebble-Dash & Roughcast

Painting pebble-dash is a different exercise — the surface area is huge and the coverage rate is much lower than smooth render. We sprayer-paint pebble-dash for both coats to get full coverage into every gap, then roll-out where needed for an even finish.

2. Site visit and quote. For most masonry painting work we like to visit the property to give an accurate fixed price. The visit is free, takes 15-30 minutes and there is no obligation. For very small jobs we can quote from photographs alone.

3. Booking. Once you agree the quote we send a confirmation email and book a date. We do not take deposits for jobs under £500 — you pay on completion when you are happy with the work.

4. The work. We arrive on the agreed day in the agreed time slot. We dust-sheet floors, protect skirting and furniture, and work tidily. We keep you informed if anything changes.

5. Completion and payment. When the job is finished we walk you through it, hand over any guarantees or certificates and take payment. Card, bank transfer or cash all welcome.
