No spam. No sales calls. We reply within 24 hours.

What Happens Next

Once you hit Send Enquiry, your message comes straight to our inbox. We read it within working hours and reply within 24 hours, usually much sooner. The reply will normally include either a fixed-price quote (for small or photo-quotable jobs), or a suggested time for a quick free site visit (for larger jobs). You decide whether to go ahead — there is no obligation and no follow-up sales calls.

Prefer to Email Directly?

You are welcome to email us directly at info@handymansunderland.co.uk — but the form above gathers the essentials in one go, which speeds up our response. Please don't send us your phone number; we don't take phone enquiries.

What Makes a Great Enquiry

The more detail we have upfront, the more useful our reply will be. The best enquiries we get tend to include: the postcode of the property; what needs doing in plain English (no need for trade jargon — we will translate); a rough size or count where it matters (e.g. "two doors" not "some doors", "approx 4m of fencing" not "a bit of fencing"); any deadline (e.g. "before the in-laws arrive on the 20th"); and one or two photographs taken with your phone. Photos are surprisingly useful — they often save a site visit altogether, which means a quicker quote and a quicker booking for you.

What to Expect From Our Reply

Our reply will fall into one of three buckets. For small, clearly-defined jobs (a tap swap, a single door hinge, a flatpack assembly) we will usually be able to give you a fixed price straight away by email, with a suggested date. For medium jobs (a bathroom reseal-and-regrout, a full external decorating job, a long fencing run) we may need to come and have a look — we will suggest two or three dates for a free 15-30 minute site visit, with no obligation to book afterwards. For larger jobs or anything where we are uncertain about access, materials or scope, we will explain why a site visit is essential before quoting. Either way, every quote we send is a written, fixed price — never a per-hour estimate that could spiral.

Working Hours and Response Times

Our working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm, with occasional Saturday work by arrangement. Enquiries that come in during working hours are usually answered the same day; enquiries that come in overnight or at weekends are usually answered first thing the next working day. We don't reply to enquiries on Sundays or bank holidays — if your email is genuinely urgent and lands on a Sunday afternoon, please be patient until Monday morning.

Spam and the Spam Folder

Our replies come from noreply@handymansunderland.co.uk. Occasionally those replies are caught by aggressive spam filters, particularly on Hotmail and Yahoo accounts. If you don't see a reply within 24 working hours, please check your spam or junk folder before assuming we have forgotten about you. You can also add our domain to your safe-senders list to make sure future replies land in your inbox.

Privacy in Plain English

We use your details for one purpose only: to reply to your enquiry and, if you go ahead, to manage the job. We don't share them with anyone for marketing, we don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't pass them to advertising networks. If you don't become a customer, we delete the enquiry from our inbox after twelve months. If you do become a customer, we keep the job thread for six years (required by HMRC for tax records). Why We Don't Take Phone Calls

This is the question we are asked most often. The short answer is: because the people who would be on the phone are the people doing the work. Every minute we spend on the phone with one customer is a minute we are not on a job for another. We tried the call-centre model briefly years ago and it doesn't suit us — the moment work is routed through someone who isn't on site, accuracy drops, and so does the quality of the quote. Email lets us reply properly, with thought, often with photographs attached, and from somewhere quiet rather than the top of a ladder. It also gives both sides a written record of what was agreed, which has saved a lot of grief over the years.
